Making a real photobook. From scratch.
Llumàtics presents the Photobook: from concept to object workshop. Three sessions to turn your images into a real editorial object.
Having images is the starting point. Turning them into a book is a completely different decision. A photobook forces you to choose — which images go in, which do not, in what order, in whose voice — and every decision defines what the whole thing is about.
The new Photobook: from concept to object workshop is for those who want to take that step seriously. It is not a Photoshop course or a printing tutorial: it is complete guidance from the concept to the file ready for the printer.
Three four-hour sessions, separated by intermediate tasks:
- Session 1 — Concept, format and narrative: what your book is about, how it reads, how many pages, which paper, which printing system.
- Between sessions — Physical dummy: scissors, home prints, everything on a table until you have a first clear order.
- Session 2 — Digital design in Affinity Publisher: from the dummy to the final document.
- Session 3 — Final review, exports (PDF, ePub, web) and a made-to-measure printing quote.
The workshop is supported by 112books.eu, with extensive experience in graphic arts and conceptual communication. During session 3 we work out the printing quote live: size, paper, print run, printing system. Options range from a single copy to short runs for distribution.
The software is Affinity Publisher, free since 2024. You need to install it before session 2.
The only requirement: having your own photographic body of work — a minimum of 50-100 images from a single project. You do not need to have taken any Llumàtics workshop beforehand.
The workshop runs on demand, four people maximum. The first edition is for students of the From Street to Book course, but any photographer with a project in hand can join the waiting list.
